Newsletter Number 11                                  Wednesday, 7th February 2007

The Governors and I are pleased to report that Ms Nicola Hare’s contract has been extended until 31st August, she is working well with Koala’s class and we value her contribution to the school.  Mrs Kelly is making progress, we have sent her flowers and the children have made a beautiful card for her.

Open Afternoon:  Monday, 12th February 3.15 – 4 pm your child/children will be able to show you their classroom and books.  Key Stage 1 have had a fantastic time learning about Space & Earth and have some lovely models and work to share with you.  The visit to Techniquest was very successful, the children really enjoyed it, as did the adults who commented on the excellent behaviour of the children.  Ms Hare is looking forward to meeting the parents of children in her class.

Parent Consultations:  We will be holding individual parent consultations on the following dates:

We have extended the evening times for this round of consultations.  I will put up the lists after the next newsletter.

Schools Admissions:  The statutory consultation document has been published, if you would like a copy please ask Mrs Currie.  The summary proposal is to include Criterion 6 in the over subscription criteria – ‘children living outside the catchment area but nearest the school and registered in a linked school on the first day of the child’s final academic year at the school.  This is the criterion that we wanted added.  I have asked for a copy of the over subscription criteria to be made available for all parents.

PTA:  At the PTA meeting last week it was decided to hold an Easter Activity afternoon in school on the 30th March where parents and children can work together on activities culminating in an Easter Hat parade.  More details to follow.

Severe Weather:  in the light of the warnings that we have heard from the weather forecasters the following arrangements are in place.  If County or the Police make the decision to close all schools then Orchard FM will be given that information.  If it is a school decision then please ring the following numbers but not before 8.15 am, that will give the staff and I time to get to school and assess the situation.

School Profile:  This is a statutory document that the school produces and is available at http://schoolfinder.direct.gov.uk There is also a  paper copy in the office or it is on our school web site www.eastbrentfirstschool.co.uk  We would welcome your comments on it.

Head Lice:  It has been reported that a few children have head lice at the moment. Could you please inspect your child’s head. This can be done by brushing the hair while it is damp with a detection comb or a fine tooth comb over a piece of white paper. Any live lice in the hair should drop out and be easily visible on the paper. If you find live lice, the wet combing method of treatment should be used, this should be repeated every 2 or 3 days until no live lice are found. It is also very important to check the rest of the family and others who may have been in close contact with your child  recently.
