Newsletter Number 12                                       Thursday, 1st March 2007

 

I am pleased to report that the lease for the field has at last been signed, and the grounds department are preparing to get the field fenced.

 

Book Fair:  There is a Scholastic Book Fair running after school today, Friday and Monday.  The children are being asked to draw and colour their favourite book cover over the weekend, there will be prizes for the best book covers in each year group.

 

Wells Cathedral Day:  The Year 4’s are going to Wells Cathedral on Friday 9th March, leaving school at 9 am and returning for 3.15 pm.  Please ensure that the permission slips and money are returned to the office as soon as possible.  Also it can be cold in the Cathedral so make sure that the children wear a warm coat or a fleece under their jackets.  The children should wear school uniform and bring a packed lunch in a throw-away bag and a carton or bottle of drink.

 

Parent Consultations:  We will be holding individual parent consultations on the following dates:

Monday 19th March  Mrs Plummer            2pm – 7 pm   )    Lists are now available

Wednesday 21st March  Mrs Bowkett  2.30 – 7 pm )   on class doors.

Thursday 22nd March           Ms Hare  1 pm – 7 pm         )   Please sign up.

 

PTA:  The next PTA meeting is on Thursday 8th March at 8 pm in school.

 

Self Defence:  Mr. Patrick Barber is willing to run a self defence classes for ladies.  This will last for 2 hours and will take place in the school hall from 7 pm – 9 pm.  The cost will be £10 for the session.  He is willing to run the class twice if there is enough support with the proceeds going to the PTA.  Please complete the slip below to register for a class.

 

Invitation books:  There are still a few invitation books outstanding, please return them to school or the payment as soon as possible.

 

Comic Relief:  Friday 16th March:  The School Council has agreed that we would celebrate this event by having a non school uniform day and everyone should wear at least one item that is red.  Commercial red noses are not safe to have in school.  Donations from the non uniform day will be included in our Promise to Africa appeal.

 

Music Club:  There will be no music club on Tuesday 13th March.  On Tuesday 20th March music club will begin to learn the songs for our summer production, if your child would like to take part in the production please come along and join this club.

Highbridge Festival of Arts:  Mrs. Bowkett and Mrs. Plummer have coordinated all the arrangements for children taking part in the festival.  The school will provide coaches to take the children to The Princess Hall for the

·                     7 and under poem on Monday 5th March afternoon (leaving school at 2.15 pm);

·                     7 and 9 and under choral speakers on Tuesday 6th March (leaving school at 1.15 pm)

·                     both choirs on Wednesday 7th March (leaving school at 10.45 am)

 

For each of these events parents must make arrangements to get their children home on Monday afternoon and back to school on Tuesday (if in music club) and Wednesday.  THERE WILL BE MUSIC CLUB ON TUESDAY 6th MARCH for a final practice.

 

The children and staff have put a great deal of work in to preparing for this festival, we wish them all luck and hope that they enjoy the competitions.

 

Going Places:  Are offering £50 voucher off holidays taken in school holidays, (Suncentre and Family First brochures).   If you would like to find out more please ask in the office.  (These holidays have to be booked by 30th April)

 

Bonus Ball:  The PTA are selling Bonus Ball numbers, please support them, there is a chance for you to win and to raise money for the school.

 

Poppies Class:  Mrs Plummer would like to thank all the parents for helping their children with their sewing during half term.  This was a really good experience for them and the finished result gave the children a real sense of achievement.  We had two excellent students who worked hard with Poppies class on their Space topic, they also learnt a lot about whole class sewing!
