Newsletter Number 19                                    Wednesday, 27th June 2007

Transfer Day:  Tuesday 3rd July is transfer day throughout the whole of the Cheddar Valley, each child spends the morning with the class and teacher they will be with for September.  Our current Year 4’s will go by coach to Hugh Sexey, they will leave at 9.30 am and return at 1.30 pm.  They will need to bring £2 for a school lunch at Hugh Sexey.  All the current Year 2 and 3 will spend the morning with Ms Hare.  The current Year 1’s will spend the morning with Mrs Plummer and the current Reception and the new Reception children will spend the morning with Mrs Bowkett.

NSPCC:  The NSPCC/Childline have produced a very good booklet called ‘In the know’, it is aimed at Years 3 and 4 and tackles the issues of Child Abuse, bullying & calling for help.  I feel that this booklet is to be shared by parents with their own children, it is not suitable for school use.  Parents are the best judge of how much they want their children to know and need to be there to answer any questions or concerns that arise.  If you would like a copy of this booklet please ask me, Ms Hare or Mrs Currie for a copy.

Sports Club/Thursday Club:  Miss Claridge is away on the 25th/28th June and 2nd/5th July.  There will be no

Thursday Club on 19th July (sports afternoon) or Sports Club on 23rd July.

St. Mary’s Church Fete:  Saturday, 21st July –  All children have been invited to come and sing some of their songs from ‘Rats’ at 2.30 pm on the Village Green, in their costumes, please put this date in your diary.  They will also be holding a ‘Fancy Dress’ competition at 3.30 pm.

Balloon Launch – Official Opening of the school field – Friday 6th July:  Thank you all for selling the balloons which will be launched during the event.  Please return the sold balloon tickets and money to the office as soon as you can.  If you would like some more please ask Liz Smith or Mrs Currie.  The prize for the winning balloon that gets sent back from the furthest distance to the school by 31st August is £50 voucher of the winners’ choice.

Awards:  The end of Year 4 awards has generated a great deal of passion, we were not anticipating this and the governors feel this issue requires more thought before a decision is reached.  We will continue to award the cups this year alongside the recognition of the achievements of every child and will poll parents on long term options in the autumn term.

PTA:  The next meeting is Thursday 28th June at 8 pm in school, when we will be finalising the details for the Official Opening of the Field on Friday 6th July, please come along to this meeting if you have any ideas or are willing to help in any way.

Breakfast Club:  This will be continuing in September.

Class Photos:  The class photos are on the school notice board in the playground, the cost is £8.00. If you would like to order a photograph please let Mrs Currie have the money by Thursday, 6th July at the latest.

Kilve Court Autumn Courses:  These enrichment courses are available for Years 3 and 4 and take place over weekends during the autumn term, if you would like a leaflet please ask in the office.
