Promise to Africa:  The Cheddar Valley Learning Partnership has been working together for 30 years and in order to celebrate this all the schools have decided to make a contribution to improving the lives of children in the Masindi District of Uganda.  We are initiating a special project under the aegis of the charity ‘Link Community Development’ and are being led by a former student of the Cheddar Valley.  In Uganda relatively modest sums of money can make a huge difference.  We are going to launch our part in this project on Friday 6th October by holding a non uniform day.  We will be holding further fund raising activities throughout the year.

Non uniform day:  Friday 6th October please send a donation for the Promise to Africa project.

Parents Meeting:  Mrs Bowkett will meet the parents of the new reception children on Monday 9th October at 3.30 pm, play activities will be provided for children.

School Development Forum:  A joint meeting of parents, staff and governors on Wednesday, 11th  October at 3.30 pm a crčche will be provided.  The areas for discussion will be site security; travel plan and the revised aims of the school.  We want this to be an opportunity for everyone to share their thoughts and ideas so that together we can take the school forward.

Bring and Buy:  The school council are organising a bring and buy sale for Thursday 12th October following the Harvest Celebration in church.  If you have any toys, books, videos, dvd’s, good quality clothes please bring it into school next week. If you could make any cakes they would be much appreciated.  The proceeds from this sale will be given to the Kenyan Choir who will be visiting school next Friday 13th.  They will be here for the afternoon and sharing a singing time with our music club and the whole school.

School lunches:  There was enough interest for hot school lunches to begin talks with Somerset Catering Services.  They will be sending us sample menus & I will distribute these with the next newsletter & inform you of the financial and domestic arrangements.  We have not committed ourselves to this service yet.

Off site appointments:  If you need to take your child off site for an appointment please let Mrs Currie in the office know and there is a signing in & out book.

Medicines:  If your child needs to medicine during the school day, please give it to myself or a member of staff and you will need to sign the medicine record book.

Tea Towels:  The children are busy drawing pictures of themselves and their teachers to put onto a tea towel, these will be available in time for Christmas.

Christmas Cards:  Plausible Publishing are a company that can turn your child’s design into a Christmas card, they personalise the cards by adding your child’s name and that of the school on the back.  They charge Ł3.50 for a pack of 10 cards of each design, 50p going to school funds. New web site:  We have just set up a new web site www.eastbrentfirstschool.co.uk please feed back your comments on it and anything you would like to contribute to the site.

Cycle Awareness:  Hopefully this will be third time lucky!!  I have managed to arrange for Dan Coast from Go Ride cycling organisation to run a set of four sessions in cycle awareness.  This is for YEAR 4 only and will take place during the last week of this half term.  The sessions will be on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 3.30 pm – 5 pm and Friday from 9 – 10.30 am.  They are free!  You do not have to attend all the sessions if they clash with out of school events, however where possible Dan would like the children to attend all the sessions.  Bikes and helmets can be left in school if you would like to bring them in the mornings, if your child does not have a bike then Dan can provide them.  Please complete the slip below if you would like your child to take part.  (I will arrange with Miss Claridge to excuse the Year 4 children from her clubs that week.)
