Newsletter Number 4                                    Wednesday, 18th October 2006

PTA: The next PTA meeting is today, Wednesday 18th October,  at 8 pm in school, all parents are welcome.  We need your help to arrange the Christmas Fayre.

Singing Choir of Africa:  It was a very enjoyable and humbling experience to see and sing with the children from Kenya last Friday.  These children came from very poor and broken families.  They have to walk long distances to school and they were astonished at the facilities and play equipment that we are so lucky to have.  The School Council raised £140, which we gave to them on Friday with our love and hope that their visit and the money they have raised will make a small difference to their district of Kenya.  Many thanks to all those who supported the bring and buy sale and the concert in church.

School Development Forum:  The governors have attached a security update, we will continue to discuss the matters that arose from the meeting and will report back to you as we make progress.   The Governors and Staff are currently active in responding to concerns recently raised by parents.  Your input is invaluable to the development of the school, and we would like to remind you that comments, concerns and ideas are welcome at any time. (office@eastbrent.somerset.sch.uk)

School lunches:  I am attaching a sample copy of the menu for 4 weeks of school lunches. The cost of the meal is £1.70 per day.  If we have 45 children who would like to have school dinners then the meals will be delivered and served within the costs; if the number is less then we will have to collect and serve the meals so there will be additional costs unless we can find a volunteer.  After looking at the menus if you think that your child/children would like school dinners please complete the slip overleaf.

New web site:  We have just set up a new web site www.eastbrentfirstschool.co.uk. Please feed back your comments on it and anything you would like to contribute to the site. If you would like to advertise your business as a link from our website it can be arranged for a nominal fee.

Year 4:  Parents of children transferring to Hugh Sexey Middle School, Blackford have been invited to a meeting there on Thursday, 16th November at 7.30 pm. If you have not received a letter about this please ask at the office.

Steve Lewis is our school caretaker and cleaner, he always does a really good job keeping our whole school site clean and tidy.  He has been awarded a Highly Commended Certificate in recognition of his hard work from SCS.  Steve always has a cheery smile and is a valued member of our school.

Christmas Cards: The last day for ordering the cards from Plausible Publishing is Thursday 19th October. Please send them in to the office in the morning

Open Afternoon:  Monday 13th November 3.15 – 4 pm is an opportunity for your children to show you their classroom and their books.  If this day or time is not convenient then please arrange another time with your child’s class teacher. Lists will go up on class doors after half term for you to sign up.
