Happy New Year to you all!

 

I am pleased to report that we have appointed Ms. Nicola Hare to work with Koala’s Class.  Nicola is very experienced having taught in a range of primary schools and with different age groups.  She is also enthusiastic and keen to provide the best teaching experiences she can for our children.

 

Christmas Celebration:  Thank you all for your support with all our Christmas celebrations, we raised £172 which was split between A Promise to Africa and The Children’s Society.  Mr. Neil Richards entered a photograph of our nativity play to the Mid Somerset Group of Newspapers and won £100 for the best Christmas school photo so our grateful thanks to him.  Plausible Publishing, the company that printed the Christmas cards designed by the children sent us a cheque for £45.50.  Premier Trophies gave us a cheque for £4.75 for commission on Christmas trees bought from them. 

 

PTA:  During the autumn term the PTA raised the following:

After school clubs:

 

Sports Club with Miss Claridge will continue on Monday’s 3.15 – 4.15 pm

Music Club with Mrs. Bowkett will continue on Tuesday’s 3.15 – 4.15 pm, this term she will be concentrating on entries for the Burnham and Highbridge Festival of Arts.

Mrs. Plummer will work with children at lunchtimes on their poetry entries for the festival.

PE Club with Miss Evans will continue on Wednesday’s 3.15 – 4.15 pm, the cost for this club is £20 for the whole term.  Everyone taking part in this club are asked to complete the slip below.  If there are any Year 3 or 4 children who would like to join this club please feel free to join this term.  There are still places available!

Thursday Club with Miss Claridge is for Years 3 and 4 will continue on Thursday’s 3.15 – 4.15 pm.

 

Music lessons with Mrs. Steady are continuing and will begin again on Thursday 11th January.

 

Reading with your child:  This is an advance notice of a training session that we will be running for teachers, teaching support assistants, parents who help with reading in school and parents on Wednesday 7th February.  This training will be led by Anne Harvey.  The session for parents will be at 3.30pm and there will be a crèche.

 

Year 4 Residential Trip:  If you are paying by instalments, please could you ensure that the December and February instalments of £50 are with Mrs. Currie by 16th February.  There will be a meeting on Wednesday 28th February for parents and children to talk through some of the arrangements.

 

As we occasionally have the odd case of head lice can I remind you that all girls with shoulder length hair should have it tied back.

 

Severe Weather – In the case of very severe weather conditions please listen to Orchard FM who will give regular updates on school closures.  For school information please telephone the following numbers between 8.15am and 8.45 am.  Please don’t ring before 8.15 as we have to get the correct information to the phone contacts.

Inset Training Days:  Monday 26th February and Monday 4th June are booked for staff training and school will not be open.

 

Parish Council:  The Parish Council has asked the field owner at the end of Hill Lane to help to improve the visibility of leaving Hill Lane by reducing the height of the hedge.  The Parish Council have also asked  the users of the Cemetery Car Park to make sure that the gates are closed when the last car leaves.  The Parish Council have pointed out that the gates remained closed during school holidays and were only left open during school time.
